Why doesn't someone just host them so they are easier to find to download?

Thanks Fixious, but the point is people need to know what to do when they are dropped from the server. If there are any newer people playing on the server, they won't understand why they were dropped, or know how to remedy the issue, especially the younger generation. This issue came up once before, but I think Crow is right. Since they are not "Server" side maps, and ARE client side maps, it might be best to get the maps removed to not have any issue's. You know, it's a shame. There were some servers in the past that if you didn't have a particular map, it would auto download it to you while you were trying to join the server. The server would scan your Tribes/Base/Mission folder while you were trying to connect to it to see if you had the required maps to play on it. If you didn't, it would auto send them to your Tribes /Base/Mission folder. Once it sent them, it would allow you to auto join the server to play. This went for anything that you had not personally downloaded in order to play on a particular server. It was kind of like your console gamming systems you use today. When you join an online game and you don't have an update or a particular file, it auto downloads it for you then you can continue to the online game once it has completed.

I know Tribes Vengeance has that as well as most Unreal Tournament games. I don't remember Tribes or even Tribes 2 having that feature.

Yeah, it did, the original servers back in 1997 who hosted had this feature, due to the game being a new release. Once it was out for awhile and they allowed personal server hosting, it stopped.

And actually not all Unreal Tournament servers who host has this feature, you still have to find and do a download on some servers, just like in T1 now. Unreal Tournament still has a large online following. It's also fun to play online, but it has a different feel to it, and the maps are no where as close to as big as Tribes, nor do you have the ability to fly short distances, or use any type of air ship. UT was my first online team warfare game that I played, but Tribes is my Favorite!

You know, it's funny, I was playing in LT last night and people were relaying I had a flag grab cheat hack that would allow me to skip my image making it look like latency. This would make them miss when shooting at me. It's funny as hell for as long as this game has been out that people still accuse others of cheating. I have said this since scripting was created for Tribes. I only use 2 scripts. Presto, and Newopts. Both which don't really do anything in an LT server. I don't even have a nade throwing script. The nades you see I throw for a distance is myself holding down the nade button to gain that distance. I also use a reticle. That's it! Now as for latency. That could only be my 6 mg DSL line I use at home. I don't get anything faster out here due to living in the country, and I was lucky ATT ran this line at no cost to myself, but here in the near future will be getting with Time Warner for their 1,000 mg service. If they don't have equipment in the area, then their 300 mg service. Hell, I'm even willing to let them add a building on my property so they can upgrade their equipment and services in the area to provide for a new housing development that is about 2 miles away to provide me with free services, and they wouldn't have to worry about security, my property is gated and fully fenced off, with security lighting and day and night time cameras.

people getting dropped for not having clientside maps has been happening forever

i think you're thinking of serverside maps

While I am unaware of any Startsiege: Tribes servers having the ability to upload client-side map files to clients, it is conceivable.

Before Bob sent everyone to Meatspin.com, we could have used the same hack to force everyone to download map packs or game updates, but since it was used for nefarious reasons, most copies of tribes come pre-patched to prevent that hack from working.

At the time, I thought it was funny, but in hind sight, I think Bob single handedly killed Tribes. :hscratch:
