Re: linux
I used Wubi to install ubuntu 11.10 (Dual boot installer)
So what i did was, install windows 7 on C drive and Ubuntu on D drive. I stored the unzipped version of 1.40 on D drive using Windows, boot into Linux and look for the file in file manager (and run it using Wine).
Otherwise just un-rar it on any windows pc and put it in a flash drive.

Re: linux
Yes its a lot cooler than windows but the newest version always uses ur cpu at 100% (its a bug in 11.10) so it heats up my pc considerably, that's why i switched back to windows.ubuntu 11.10 is better. it uses less processes so its a fast os. its really good for gaming. it has alot of features and its really hard to get a virus. i dont get virus's but i have a woman who is not internet smart about ads lol.
Even certain online stream video players (JW player) use cpu acceleration to run the videos, and for some reason its really laggy on ubuntu.
On the whole games run very smoothly but only non DirectX based games can be played on Wine. Eg: Tribes, Unreal engine games, etc basically OpenGL games.
