spyder paid for the pw server. it did come out to a little less though. forgot exact price, but somewhere closer to 20 dollars instead of 25. the pw on it and lower player count gives us a little discount.

if 26 player slots proves to be not enough, we can raise it in future.

I find it funny that branzone only supports up to 32 players... I mean, technically, that's what the box said. 1-32 players. But Tribes really supports 128 clients - bots.

If you give me a couple weeks I can look into hosting a Free server for us. I just got my Business Server in not to long ago and I just need to set it up. Keep me posted if you guys would like to do something like that for any reason.

even hosting off shoot mods help the cause. if you have a server pc, and a little bandwidth to spare it wouldn't hurt. always nice seeing a full server list, even if not many of the servers get used.

The only reason a professional server is better than a home PC for hosting, is the permanent IP, higher speed internet, and the fact that the computer doesn't get shut off occasionally, and the internet doesn't slow down when the server owner decides to watch netflix or pornhub.

Windows Server operating systems are actually not a selling point, because Windows XP was the best OS for hosting Tribes.
Mainly because DosFix only works with Windows XP, and it's way better than InfiniteSpawn.

Then again, I do like the convenience of using remote desktop to modify my server.

My professional host has been driving me insane. I paid them $19.99 on March 7, and realized about a week later that my server was not actually running. I've been going back and forth with tech support since March 18th, trying to convince them that the problem is the Windows machine would not stay running more than 12 hours at a time. I finally got them to do something yesterday, and it's stayed online for more than 12 hours now. I just reinstalled Tribes, and now I can start editing the mod, again.

Thanks to donations, my server is paid for, for the next 3 months, but if I continue having issues with my host, I'll be in the market for a new one, and free definitely sounds appealing.

Yeah, I have business class internet for my server hosting that I have been doing. I would be more than happy to host a server for you guys. I have a high-end server I could use to host several servers. I should be able to handle anywhere from 5-10 full capacity servers at one time. I did some hosting for CS and a couple other games. Like I said, if you need it it's available.

5-10? The oldest computer in my house can host a few hundred, simultaneously.

A dedicated tribes server only takes about 10-20 MB of RAM, about 100 MB of HDD, and only a fraction of a GB/month of data. My currently vacant annihilation server is using 14 MB of RAM.

Configured properly, multiple servers can be run from the same installation, so the only additional disk space needed would be for multiple configs/mods/logs.

That being said, 5-10 servers is probably more than the community needs... But we'd be happy to have them. LOL

i think this would also be a good time to mention. might be best to appropriate all future funds to one account. in the interest of keeping up the community server.

on a side note, i was actually thinking about getting together with some of the web server owners for tribes community, and seeing if sharing a bill might be in our best interest in the future. atm i know me, plasmatic, groove, and maybe erowid all host web servers on our own accord. might be a good idea to combine sites and save a little money on the bill in the future. this is an option i wanted to preset to plas and groove in the near future.

I completely agree.

You're currently paying more than me, for each of your servers.
I just sorted out my server's issues, so I can host many servers at no additional cost.
I can install filezilla on my server to give other developers access to it, or even setup additional windows accounts for remote desktop access.

Or Tyboi can host everything on his business server, or whatever. I've got no idea how much that costs him... Hopefully, it's making him money, not the other way around.

As for websites, I also agree that we should unify... It could have subdomains for clans and/or mods, etc... One forum to unite them all... That kinda thing.

I'm not sure which forum would be best... I personally hate PHPBB. I really liked Invision Power Boards, but they are too expensive. Proboards are kinda neat, but a little difficult to customize, since you can't host them yourself. I think I hosted MyBB once, but I can't remember if I liked them or not.

I'll tell you what I really want to do... Buy the old master server domains... Host the old master servers, along with a website like this http://tribesquery.toocrooked.com/

I know [df]Satan reached out to the owners and tried to buy them, and got no response.
